At Hotel Edelweiss you can spend your holidays with a clear conscience!

Ecological and environmental Hotel Edelweiss in Engelberg has a overall strategy since 1994. The owner Peter Kuhn is since 1968 vehement agains new nuclear power plants. When he took over the hotel 1994, he started promoting renewable energy sources. The outcome of this was the construction of a 27 m2 solar plant in 1999. With the ENAW (Energy agency of the economy) as advisor we reached our 10-year-goal of reducing the CO2 emission. Because of that we get since 1.1.2010 a CO2-emission-refund from the state. All renovation in Hotel Edelweiss Engelberg are also aimed at energy efficiency – like that we reduced our heating oil consumption in the last 20 years from 120’000 to 40’000 liters per year.

Along with the self produced energy by our 27 m2 solar panels, our hotel also gets pure water energy by the electric power company of Obwalden. Like that we invest the CHF 3’255.50 CO2-emission-refund every year into renewable energy.

Of course we are also consistent in other areas like waste separation, batteries, energy saving lamps and office.
